New photo Chelsea have £203m of players on loan as £58m Pulisic becomes 42nd star shipped out

CHRISTIAN PULISIC has become the 42nd Chelsea player on loan to another club – with a combined market value of £203million.

Pulisic this morning completed a £58million deal to move to Stamford Bridge, but has already been sent back to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.

The American international joins the ever-increasing list of Chelsea players plying their trade away from Stamford Bridge.

And the Premier League club show no signs on letting up with their side business, having also agreed to let Jarad Thompson join Warrenpoint Town today.

Academy product Thompson’s move to the Northern Irish club sees him become the FIFTH goalkeeper Chelsea have out on loan at the moment.

It is a booming cash driver for the London club as they rake in loan fees each time someone is farmed out.

Using the figures of Transfermarkt.co.uk, the low-end valuation of the whole loan group is now over £200m.

But the business model is becoming controversial throughout the rest of football, with Fifa attempting to take measures to reduce the trade in young players.

Fifa are attempting to cap the number of players any one club can send out on loan to just eight at any one time.

They have become concerned at the practice of big clubs hoovering up the best young talent into their systems to prevent rivals from signing them.

The belief is that the promising players then have little chance of progressing into the first teams, and are instead just used as a business commodity to tout around on short terms deals.

Fifa’s plans are set to only involve restricting the number of players signed on a fee by a club, rather than anyone who is developed through their academy system.

But it would still force sides like Chelsea to change their business model in order for them to comply.

A deal like the one agreed with Dortmund for Pulisic would count as one of the eight, but Thompson’s switch to Warrenpoint would not.

Chelsea’s marketplace for young footballers means they currently have players featuring for clubs in 11 separate countries.

Twenty-one are with English sides, while four are in Spain and Holland apiece – including 36-year-old keeper Eduardo playing for Vitesse.
