BREXIT could be delayed until the end of 2019 as rebels look to hijack the negotiations, it’s been reported.

A new coup is proposing a shake-up that would force Theresa May to extend Article 50 until December  if she can’t win support for her EU plan, The Times reports.

Conservative MP Nick Boles is spearheading the proposals after Theresa May’s EU plan was spectacularly dismantled in the Commons.

He explained plans on his website, in an article called Stopping No Deal Brexit.

Boles wrote: “Some of the MPs working on this are strong supporters of the PM’s deal. Others will be voting against the deal.

“But all of the MPs involved are united in the belief that a no deal Brexit in our current state of preparedness would be against the national interest.

“We anticipate that if [we] succeed in obtaining majorities in the House of Commons, then the Bill will subsequently also secure wide support in the House of Lords and will therefore quickly become law.”

Under his plans, control of the Brexit negotiations would pass to the liaison committee is a plan couldn’t be agreed on in a certain time frame.

The committee is made up of 36 select committee chairmen who are overwhelmingly in favour of remaining in the EU.

Tory Sarah Wollaston is the leader – a campaigner for a second referendum.

Business bosses demand action

It has also been revealed that bosses of Tesco and Amazon UK warned ministers about the consequences of leaving the Union without a deal.

Executives at building firm Balfour Beatty were also on an hour long conference call with Philip Hammond and Brexit Secretary Stephen Barclay, demanding reassurances, Sky report.

Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty’s chief executive, said: “I would like to know when we might get back to a normal functioning government.

He added: “The enemy of business is delay and procrastination, and the construction industry will face large-scale restructuring where it cannot carry the resources it will need over the next 25 years, and capability will have to be let go.”

Doug Gurr, the UK boss of Amazon, asked ministers to provide reassurance about the likely direction of Brexit.

John Allan, chairman of Tesco, said the cabinet was guilty of communicating “conflicting messages”.

After the Commons votes yesterday, Boles said: “I voted for the PM’s deal tonight and will of course back her in tomorrow’s confidence vote. But be in no doubt that she is the architect of tonight’s defeat.

He added: “She must now accept that Parliament will set the terms of Brexit”.
