EVERY year it seems to get worse and worse — the annual festive transport chaos.


Here is a handy guide to what is and what isn’t running, and what strikes you have to look out for…

What strikes do I have to watch out for?


Workers on the South Western Railway will strike for two days after a long-running dispute over guards on trains.


The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) announced strike action for Thursday 27th and New Year’s Eve.


South Western has announced reduced service across the network, and services will stop on some lines.

When buses and tubes running on New Year 2019?


A special all-nighter is running on most Underground lines until 4.30am on New Year’s Day.


The Waterloo and City line is running until 2.30am.


There is no service on the Piccadilly line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge


District line: No service between Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia).


Piccadilly line: No service between Rayners Lane to Uxbridge until 11am.


There is also a reduced service after 4.30am.


Trams are running a Sunday service.

When are trains not running on New Year?


Trains will not run to or from London Victoria.


Limited trains will be running on most networks between now and New Year’s, with continued engineering works causing disruption across the UK.


The list below details services on some of the lines affected. Services are expected to return to normal on January 2.

CrossCountry


On January 1, there will be engineering work at Winchester, with journey times extended by around 40 minutes.


Rail replacement road transport will operate between Winchester, Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central.


Gatwick Express


On Monday January 1, a Sunday service will operate.


Greater Anglia


On January 1 there will be no Greater Anglia train service between London Liverpool Street and Ingatestone / Billericay.


Southeastern


On January 1 2018 there will be no trains at many main London stations. Check before you travel.


South Western Trains


On Monday January 1 there will be a largely reduced service.


Southern


On Monday January 1 there will be no train service at Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill, Reigate, Earlswood, Salfords or at stations between Redhill and Tonbridge. Services between London, Gatwick and the south coast will continue to operate, but at a reduced frequency.


Thameslink


On Monday January 1 there will be no Thameslink cross London service.


For the same time period, there will be no train service at Coulsdon South, Merstham, Redhill, Reigate, Earlswood, Salfords or at stations between Redhill and Tonbridge.


TfL Rail


Between now and Monday January 1 the line will be closed between London Liverpool Street and Shenfield.


Virgin Trains


On Monday January 1 services will resume later than normal with a revised timetable.


London Overground


A Saturday service will run.
No service from South Tottenham to Barking; Romford and Upminster; Edmonton Gree and Cheshunt; Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction.
The DLR is running a Saturday service from 8am.
