What a difference a day makes. Yesterday the Queen hosted the extended royal family for a lavish Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.
This morning, however, the 92-year-old monarch travelled alone - although flanked by a team of security staff - as she caught the train up to King's Lynn station in Norfolk from London.
Flashing a smile at waiting photographers, the Queen appeared in good spirits as she prepares to bring her close family together this yuletide.
Her arrival at the royal estate in Sandringham marks the beginning of her traditional festive break and will see her welcome both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as rumours swirl over tensions between the two couples.
Here goes! Travelling alone but with a team of protection officers close by, the Queen arrived in King's Lynn this morning as her annual Christmas break at Sandringham started in earnest. The Queen will host the close royal family including the Cambridges and Sussexes, who have been dogged by rumours of a rift between couples in recent weeks
Festive cheer! Wearing a Burberry head scarf, dark camel coat and pink lipstick, the Queen looked warm as she made the journey north; it's likely the Duke of Edinburgh will travel to Sandringham by car

As the train pulled into the station, the Queen was spotted wearing dark glasses as she prepared to disembark from the dedicated royal carriage
Mind the gap! Alongside regular travellers, the Queen stepped off the train. Looking in jolly spirits, the Queen was closely followed by an aide, who carried her briefcase and a woolen scarf that matched her headwear
One's briefcase! An aide was spotted carrying a well-worn black leather briefcase with two labels attached to it, one which read 'The Queen'
The Duke of Edinburgh, who didn't appear to be travelling with the Queen, is thought to be making the journey to Sandringham by car as he did last year.
An extensive team of police officers and close protection officers were seen combing platform 2 ahead of the monarch's arrival.
Bemused bystanders - including a group of teenagers - appeared unaware that the 92-year-old would be arriving imminently.
As the train pulled into the platform, the monarch could be seen in the window seat, with a bodyguard sat close by.
Wearing a pair of dark glasses in the bright Norfolk sunshine, the 92-year-old took off her headscarf for the journey and disembarked with an aide, who carried her briefcase, clearly labelled with 'The Queen', a Burberry woolen scarf and a festive-looking red bag.
The sight of the Queen on a draughty platform is a far cry from yesterday, when the monarch welcomed the extended royal clan, including her great-grandchildren Prince George and Princess Charlotte to the traditional seasonal lunch at Buckingham Palace.
With a pair of warm black gloves and her favoured black leather handbag, the 92-year-old strolled along the platform and into an awaiting royal car as her festive break began

Salve: The Queen will be hoping she can bring her close family together this Christmas amid fears of a growing rift between Kate and Meghan
The family gathering at the Palace takes place shortly before the royal family head to Sandringham for the 25th.
The Queen and her family usually wait until the day before Christmas to decorate their tree at Sandringham House in Norfolk, gathering in the White Drawing Room on Christmas Eve to put the finishing touches to a 20ft tree cut from the estate.
This year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with George, Charlotte, and Louis, will be celebrating Christmas this year in Norfolk, despite previous reports that they would be spending the day with the Middletons.
It comes amid rumours of a rift between the Cambridges and Sussexes, following the announcement Meghan and Harry will be moving away from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor next year.
