A 40-stone man who was banned from all his local take-away restaurants in a bid to save his life has lost the weight of nine plump turkeys in time for Christmas.

Morbidly obese Darren 'Dibsy' McClintock, 27, whose calorie intake use to be 11,500 a day, was shocked into action after doctors said 'you're eating yourself to death'.

Dibsy teamed up with personal trainer Mike Hind, who took the unusual measure of handing out leaflets saying: 'Save Dibsy. Obesity is Killing Him. Do Not Serve This Man.'

Two and a half months later football fanatic Dibsy has lost a whopping seven stone and cut his calorie intake to 3,500.

He's also been to his first Middlesbrough match in seven years.

Dibsy's past Christmases were a feast of mince pies and chocolate but he's doing everything in moderation this year.

Dibsy's heroic effort was recognised by Boro players Martin Braithwaite, who gave him a shirt, and former captain Ben Gibson, who sent him a good luck text.

Fans in the crowd even spotted him and people in the street stopped him for selfies and a chat.

He said: 'Instead of picking the healthy option I would always go for what I liked, stuff like pies, pasties, crisps and chips.

'It got to the point where my legs and back were aching all the time and I ended up in hospital.

'The doctor asked me if I want to live a long life and said I can't go on the way I am or I'd be dead before too long.

'Seeing my mum's reaction to it all was heartbreaking, if it wasn't for that I might never have changed.

'Now I need to face up to my problem and tackle it head on, it's now or never.'

He added: 'I have had a lot of finger pointing and laughing over the years and I was bullied at school.

'That's another reason for making a change now, so that I can live a normal life.'

Much of Dibsy's progress is thanks to personal trainer Mike, who takes on a client for free once a year.

He received around a thousand applications but was drawn to Dibsy when he saw him with his mum.

As well as strict fitness regime Mike is also providing fully tailored and prepared meals for his new client everyday.

He said: 'Dibsy is a great guy but unfortunately he hasn't taken care of himself properly.

'I was really affected by his story and motivated to help him so he can turn his life around. He's made a great start, he's trying hard and most importantly smiling.'

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
