Many passengers had arrived at the airport on Sunday evening, but were forced to wait at least three hours to collect their bags.

The baggage relcaim area was “full of tired and grumpy” jet-setters, and many claimed they were “locked in” for hours.

Pat Seymour who was waiting for her son to arrive, tweeted: “I was the ‘other side’ waiting for one of the tired, grumpy people.

“I can certainly testify to weary passengers and exhausted children coming through from baggage reclaim when they eventually got their luggage.”

Furious passenger Steve wrote on Twitter: “What’s going on?? Meeting Berlin flight waiting for 90mins for luggage!! Unacceptable.”As time ticked away and he still hadn’t seen his luggage, Steve added: “An hour and three quarters now.

“This is the bread and butter of your job and you clearly aren’t capable of doing it.”

A spokesperson said : “Delays were experienced to the arrival of passengers baggage overnight Sunday, December 23 and Monday, December 24 to a small number of flights.

“This was caused due to flight disruption across the flight schedule earlier in the day.

“As a result of the knock-on effect with the delayed flights arriving off scheduled, airline ground handling resources were stretched at times, meaning some passengers experienced baggage delays.

“Bristol Airport apologises and appreciates the frustration passengers experienced due to the delay in the arrival of their bags. An internal investigation with the airline handling agent will be completed.”
