A TEENAGER has been forced into hiding after her birthday party invitation went viral on Facebook with more than 28,000 people clicking attend.
The 15-year-old Dutch girl had invited pals to celebrate her big day at her family home in the tiny village of Katwijk in Cuijk, southeast Netherlands, but within hours the invite was shared.
A torrent of RSVPs alerted the town’s mayor who then issued a statement that there “would be no party in Katjwik”.
Mayor Wim Hillenaar warned that police would stop anyone coming to the village “with the wrong intentions”.
The girl has now been forced to leave the village after fears her party might attract thousands and spark a riot.
The teen’s family say her party invitation posted on Snapchat had been ‘hijacked’ by strangers.
An unknown person set up an open Facebook event for a party at the girl’s address this Friday, naming it Project X Katwijk after the American film about a house party that gets out of hand.
By the time the event was shut down it had 8,000 attendees and 20,000 ‘interested’ before it was shut down.
The viral party invitation prompted the teenager to go into hiding, her uncle told a Dutch radio station.
Mayor Hillenaar said in a statement: “Our commitment is and remains to ensure that people from outside Cuijk, who come on Friday with wrong intentions, are stopped.”
