New photo Game Of Thrones, Stranger Things and Peaky Blinders – all the telly to look forward to in 2019

TV in 2019 looks set to be the best yet – with shows like Peaky Blinders, Game Of Thrones, Stranger Things and Line Of Duty all returning for new series.

The year ahead will also see new dramas debuting on telly – from Kate Beckinsale’s The Widow to BBC1’s Baptiste.

Here’s what we’ll be looking forward to …

Shipwrecked, E4

Shipwrecked: all about the tans and the teeth

What: It’s the classic mid-00’s reality show, back after seven years and ready to fill the Love Island-shaped hole in the TV schedules this winter.

When: “Coming soon” to E4 – so we’re guessing before the end of January

Line Of Duty S5

Is Hastings (centre) a bent copper?

What: The cop drama from the creator of The Bodyguard, Jed Mercurio, is back, and it looks like we’ll finally find out if the corrupt cop was AAC Hilton – or if it’s actually Hastings.

When: April 2019, according to star Martin Compston.

The Widow

Kate is swapping movies for The Widow on ITV

What: Hollywood stars can’t keep away from telly roles these days – and the latest is Kate Beckinsale, who’s appearing on ITV’s drama The Widow, about a woman who’s told her husband has died in a plane crash, so heads to Africa to investigate. It’s written by the same team who wrote The Missing and Liar.

When: March – mark your calendars.

Baptiste

Julian Baptiste survived the operation, now he’s moving to Amsterdam

What: French detective Julien Baptiste gets his own spin-off series on BBC1 – set two years after the brain tumour operation that viewers saw on screen at the end of the last series of The Missing. He’ll be hunting a disappeared person in Amsterdam.

When: February.

Game Of Thrones S8

Could Jon Snow (left) be killed off (again) in the final series?
Home Box Office

What: If you haven’t heard about Game Of Thrones on Sky Atlantic, we’re not sure what you’ve been doing with your life.

When: April – and it’s the final series, with just six episodes.

Mindhunter S2

Jonathan Groff is back for series two
Handout

What: A second series of Netflix’s hit serial killer drama, set in the 70s and following two FBI agents as they interview notorious murderers. This year they’ll cover Charles Manson and the Atlanta Child Murders.

When: The series has wrapped filming, but Netflix haven’t set a date yet.

Big Little Lies S2

Hollywood stars (L-R)Shailene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman

What: A-list cast including Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz and Reese Witherspoon return to Sky Atlantic – this time with Meryl Streep as Alexander Skarsgard’s character’s mum.

When: Mid-2019 – filming only happened late 2018.

Taboo S2

Tom Hardy is back again with his mumbling, grunting Delaney
BBC Handout

What: Written by Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight, the series was recommissioned last year after being a surprise hit on iPlayer – despite all the muffled speech and grunting that viewers complained about. Star Tom Hardy promises it’ll be “dark and dirty”.

When: The BBC haven’t released an air date yet – but the previous series debuted in January last year.

Peaky Blinders S5

Tommy Shelby (left) is now an MP
BBC

What: More gang in-fighting starring Cillian Murphy – now on BBC1 instead of BBC2. Last series, Tommy Shelby was elected to Parliament, Tom Hardy’s character was killed off – and next season, Hunger Games star Sam Claflin joins the cast.

Stranger Things S3

Stranger Things series three will see the return of the gang – but plotlines are closely guarded
