EPIC Games has stepped up its fight with those who crack open Fortnite’s code to discover things in the game that the developer is yet to announce.
One of the most popular and prolific providers of data mined info from Fortnite, FNBRleaks, has shut down after Epic’s lawyers apparently sent a cease-and-desist letter to the owner, who goes by the name Preston.
“I am not going to go into specifics with this, but due to the request of an Epic Games Attorney, who I’m not going to disclose, my Twitter, Discord, YouTube, Instagram, and GitHub must be deleted, or else they will take action,” he posted on Twitlonger shortly before deleting the main accounts associated with the brand.
FNBRLeaks had over 243,000 followers on Twitter, and was one of the most popular and reliable sources of data-mined information from the game.
They have frequently posted information on new challenges, modes, outfits and items before Epic announced them.
A staff member from the site, going by the name Scenario, posted what they claimed to be picture of the letter sent by Epic on gaming chat service Discord, according to Eurogamer.
The letter claimed that FNBRleaks’ actions “are damaging to the Fortnite community because they have spoiled the game for millions of people” — despite research showing so-called spoilers actually enhance the enjoyment of media for many.
The letter goes on to insist that Preston immediately stop “circumventing security measures” and distributing technology that allowed others to do so, ensuring that as well as stopping leaking he removes the code for software that allowed others to do so from open-source site GitHub.

It also demanded that all previously published and datamined information be deleted from the Internet as well as anywhere else “where copies of it exist”.
The site and social media accounts for FNBRleaks also offered tips for those looking to improve their play, promoted the game and Epic’s announcements, and was very popular with the Fortnite community.
