He's arguably one of the most well connected men in professional football,  but Harry Redknapp admitted his knowledge of British royalty is decidedly questionable during Monday evening's edition of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers manager entertained campmates by recalling an unexpected meeting with Princess Beatrice during a public appearance with his son, Jamie Reddknapp. 

Reflecting on the incident, Harry, 71, admitted he initially hit it off with the Royal, who he mistook for a member of the general public, over as shared love of horse racing.

'She said, "Oh my Grandmother loves the racing, oh she loves it!"' he recalled. 'I said really? She said "Yeah last year, the cup at Ascot." 

The horse in question was Irish thoroughbred Estimate, who won the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot at the age of three in 2009, and Harry admits the penny soon started to drop. 

'I thought her nan must have a few quid! Who’s her nan? And then she told me the horse and I thought, The Queen owned that horse! And then it comes to me who she is, it’s Beatrice, right?'

'When I went out Jamie said to me "you never had a clue who she was, did you?" I went "not a clue!'" 

The hilarious anecdote went down well with his fellow camp-mates, particularly Nick Knowles, who has taken a strong liking to the affable former football manager.   

While the surroundings may take some adjustment for the contestants, who were seen entering the Australian jungle for the first time on Sunday, Harry Redknapp revealed that he felt very much at home with one element.

Lightening bolt moment: 'I thought her nan must have a few quid!' he recalled. 'Who’s her nan? And then she told me the horse and I thought, The Queen owned that horse! And then it comes to me who she is, it’s Beatrice, right?'

Showered: Harry was also among the stars who made their way down to the shower

'Even at home I enjoy a cold shower and always before I go to bed I have a cold shower,' he told his campmates. 'It makes you feel good. It’s something I do a few times a day because it makes me feel better.'

He happily took a wash in the jungle shower before regaling his Croc Creek campmates with a tale from home.

He explained that his wife called him Mr Pastry 'who was a bloke who if he had a job to do, would mess everything up'.
