Exact details about Schumacher’s condition have not been made public.

In September 2017, reports in Swedish newspaper Expressen and German magazine Bravo suggest suggested the F1 great could be flown to the US for state-of-the-art medical treatment at a brain trauma centre in Texas.

A brain injury specialist named Dr Mark Meeks is claimed to be a “new hope” for the driving legend.

Early in 2018 Professor Mark Obermann, Director of the Centre for Neurology at the Asklepios clinic said fans of the F1 great “shouldn’t (give up hope)”.

Lewis Hamilton added his support, writing on Twitter: “Praying for you and your family all the time #KeepFightingMichael #Legend”.

In October 2018 his former Ferrari boss, Jean Todt,  opened up about his heartache over the F1 legend’s injuries – and revealed that he still visits the stricken star twice a month.

Todt, 72, said: “I love Michael. I see his family. I wish the situation would be different.”

What has his family said?

In November 2017, Michael’s daughter Gina-Maria posted an inspirational message urging his fans to keep their hope alive.

She wrote on Instagram: “There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved #keepfighting.”

On 9 August 2018, Formula One legend Michael Schumacher’s son Mick shared memories of his dad after snapping up his first victory.

The 19-year-old Prema Theodore Racing driver had just claimed his first ever win in European Formula 3 at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium – his dad’s favourite track.

Speaking about his victory with Mobil 1 The Grid, the young racer said the track brought him many happy memories as it was often labelled “the living room of my dad”.

And later that month on 24 August reports in France emerged alleging that Michael is able to show emotion.

Touching comments allegedly from “family members” of the star suggest he weeps when he sees beautiful scenery from his window.

The two family members who “visit him often” said it was very encouraging that Schumacher still shows emotions.

The “close relatives” told magazine Paris Match: “When you put him in his wheelchair facing the beautiful panorama of the mountains overlooking the lake, Michael sometimes cries.”

What is Michael Schumacher’s net worth?

He also holds the accolade of having the most consecutive world championships and the most consecutive race wins.

It mean that, alongside a number of high paid endorsements, Michael was once among the highest paid sportsmen in the world.

Latest figures suggest his net worth stands at just under £600 million ($780 million).

Corinna described her husband as a “fighter” in a note revealed nearly five years since his ski tragedy.

In the emotional letter, sent at an unknown time to a German musician, Corinna said: “I would like to sincerely thank you for your message and nice gift that will help us through this difficult time.

“It is good to receive so many kind wishes and other well-intentioned words – which is a great support for our family.

“We all know Michael is a fighter and will not give up.”

It was written as a reply to Hamburg bandleader Sascha Herchenbach who had sent the family a recording of a new song named Born To Fight.

He had composed the track in the months after the tragic accident

Mr Herchenbach, 38, revealed the contents of the letter in an interview with German magazine Bunte last week.
