New photo Facebook Messenger goes down AGAIN: Chat app crashes for users around the globe

Facebook Messenger users around the world were unable to send or receive messages for several hours after the chat app crashed unexpectedly on Thursday.

The Messenger app was hit with outages beginning around 6am (ET) this morning, but they were later resolved around 3pm (ET).

It comes just one week after Facebook Messenger was hit by an outage that lasted for almost an entire day.

'Earlier today some people may have briefly experienced trouble sending and receiving messages in Messenger,' Facebook spokesperson Dalya Browne told MailOnline.

'The issue was due to an error in code and has since been resolved; we're sorry for any inconvenience.'

Facebook's main site also appeared to have been hit with some outages, but service wasn't impacted as severely as the Messenger app.

Some users reported having issues replying or sending messages, while others said they weren't able to see which users are online.

About 40 percent of users said they had trouble connecting to Messenger's servers, according to Down Detector.

Another 32 percent of users said they couldn't receive messages, while 27 percent said they had issues logging into the service.

It's unclear how many users have been affected as a result of the Messenger outage, but a Down Detector chart showed 315 user reports of an outage submitted around 11am (EST)

'Can barely see anything on messenger and messages are struggling to send without WiFi,' one user wrote on the Down Detector website.

'4G not working on messenger but working on everything else.'

Disgruntled Messenger users took to Twitter in droves to complain about the outage.

One Twitter user posted a screenshot of their Messenger dashboard, which appeared completely blank and unable to load any messages, except for the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

However, a Down Detector chart showed that there were 315 user reports of an outage submitted around 11am (EST).

Just last week, Facebook Messenger was hit by an outage that left users unable to connect to the server for several hours, while others were unable to send or receive messages.

That's after Facebook and its family of standalone apps, including Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram, suffered from a 'total blackout' on November 12th.
