A SMART watch that can track a child’s movements can be hacked so anyone can find or contact them, experts have warned.

MiSafes Kids’ Watcher Plus uses GPS to help parents keep track of their kids and speak to them remotely.

But cyber experts found serious security flaws in the product, which is used by thousands of UK parents, including the use of unencrypted data.

This means hackers would be able to download software to track a child’s movements, listen to their conversations and pretend to be their parents in calls.

Ken Munro, from Pen Test Partners who discovered the vulnerability, told the BBC: “It’s probably the simplest hack we have ever seen.

“I wish it was more complicated. It isn’t.”

He said he was able to access profile details of children – including a photograph, name, date of birth, gender, weight and height.

The $9 watches – launched in 2015 – feature a GPS function that updates in real time as well as keeping track of previous locations so parents can use a smartphone app to find their children.

Parents can also create a “safe zone” and receive an alert if their child leaves the area.

They can also start a call with their child and hear what they are saying – but the experts managed to swap the caller number for their own and ring under the name “Mum” or “Dad”.

The watches were being sold on Amazon UK but are currently unavailable.

Listings on eBay have also been taken down as the product goes against an existing ban on products that could be used to spy on an individual without their knowledge.

A spokeswoman said: “We don’t allow the sale of these products on our marketplace.”
