BRUSSELS has announced it is setting up a spy school to train the next generation of European secret agents – but Britain won’t be taking part.

Eurocrats want to develop a new army of James Bonds to cement the bloc’s continuing drive to centralise defence and security operations.

But the initiative, branded a “Joint EU Intelligence Academy”, will be strictly for EU eyes only with the UK not involved.

Britain has previously resisted attempts by Brussels to set up its own secret service, fearing it would unnecessarily compete with the Five Eyes network.

But London has dropped its opposition to such initiatives, including an EU army, since the 2016 vote to leave.

The spy school will be led by Greece and Cyprus and will work with NATO to train a new generation of spooks.

In total 25 Member States will be taking part, with Denmark and Malta joining Britain on the sidelines.

European defence ministers also agreed a raft of new initiatives covering the creation of new drone technology and “military space surveillance”.
