A BLOKE who asked the internet how often he should wash his towels was hit with some revolting replies – and opened up a raging debate on bacteria.
Hoping for a fresh dose of wisdom, Reddit user sugarydoring asked: “How many days do you use a towel before shoving it in the washing machine? 2..3…4..5..6..7…days?”

Some of the responses were less than fragrant.
Chilton_Squid replied saying: “You measure it in days?!
“Err, I dunno, like when the bathroom starts to smell like old towels? Month or so I’d guess.”
While sgtBerbatov added: “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Crusty Towel. Crusty Towel always wins.”

There were diamonds in the rough, though, with some clearly sticklers for cleanliness.
User dotayoda wrote bluntly: “Washed as soon as I use it, no recycling a towel that I’ve just used to dry my s***”.

Thoughts from an expert...
Dr Lisa Acklerley’s top tips for towels
– Don’t share bath towels
– Change hand towels in your downstairs cloakroom daily if you have a busy household or lots of guests (less important if it is just you)
– Change your bath towel at least once a week
– Wash at 90C to kill the germs
Disgusted by many of the responses, BBQsaucebysainsburys commented: “Every Sunday. This thread has made me think I’m a lot less gross than I thought.”
The viral thread attracted hundreds of responses, and some particularly disgusting answers.
