'The lady’s son seemed worried for his mum who was beside herself after the discovery,' she said.

She said despite the snake being tangled up in the blinds the catch was not particularity difficult.

'He actually got himself down quite quickly and easily once I gave him a little nudge,' she said.

'He tried to hide in the wire bin that had toppled over but realised he couldn’t.'

'So feeling cornered he threw himself towards me in a defensive tactic and made a rush for under the bed but I got him before he made it that far.'

Ms Wilkinson said snakes are more interested in getting away and will only strike out at a human as a very last resort and that this snake's behaviour was a good example of that.

'They don’t chase or attack people at all. It’s all about defending themselves when threatened,' she said.

'This can be by coming toward you so you back away, rearing up and hissing, and if they continue to feel threatened throwing a mock strike so mouth closed to scare you away.'

'They only bite as a last defense.'

Ms Wilkinson said the mother and son did the right thing after discovering the snake in the home and had some more tips for those who do encounter a snake.

'I always say to people if they are out in the garden to wear long pants and boots. Australian snakes have small fangs and usually can’t penetrate through the pants or boots,' she said.

'Also to keep a bandage and their phone on them. If they see a snake keep a safe distance and keep their eye on it.'

She said the best thing to do was to always call a licensed snake catcher and to never try and catch a snake yourself, under any circumstances.

'When you see them give us a call, the callout fee is worth it in the long run as a bite can be very serious,' she said.

'Do not try to catch or kill the snake it’s very dangerous and illegal and comes with a hefty fine. Make sure you call a professional, reputable snake catcher.'
