THE government wants to set the NHS its first ever diagnosis target – by getting cancer patients diagnosed within three weeks of visiting their GP about their symptoms.

The policy is likely to be unveiled at this week’s Tory conference as part of a 10-year plan for the NHS, it was reported last night.

Doctors will be urged to “scan first, ask questions later”, according to the Daily Telegraph, after recent research showed Britain’s survival rates lag far behind the rest of Europe.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “The NHS does an amazing job the treatment of cancer…but the area that clearly needs improvement is on diagnosis and ultimately on prevention.

“We are best in class at cure once diagnosed, but we are nowhere near where we want to be on diagnosis and on early diagnosis.”

Current NHS targets focus on ensuring cancer patients begin treatment within 62 days of seeing of a GP, meaning many may wait weeks or months for a diagnosis while the disease continues to spread.

Britain’s survival rate for some cancers is a decade behind patients in some countries, like France and Sweden, according to data published last year.

Mr Hancock is also due to tell delegates that millions of cancer sufferers will be offered the chance to have their genes sequenced by researchers in a bid to create more personalised drugs and treatments.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
