LONGCHAMP
1.20: The Prix Marcel Boussac looks ROCQUES solid.
She won her first two races and completed the hat-trick with a most impressive performance when beating Ceratonia in a Group 3 over today’s course and distance last month.
The way she moved through the race suggests she’s a filly from the top drawer. Ceratonia’s half-sister was beaten in that race 12 months ago before going on to lift this prize.
Charlie Appleby’s hope is clearly useful but I’m not sure she will find the necessary improvement to reverse the form with Rocques.
The curiously-named PINK DOGWOOD came good when making all the running on heavy ground at Gowran Park.
Her brother Latrobe won this year’s Irish Derby so she’s sure to come into her own when stepped up in distance next year.
Star Terms stepped up from her Newmarket nursery success to finish runner-up in the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster. She needs another personal best just to hit the frame.
GET ON TREND Who will win the Arc this Sunday?
1.55: I’m on BOITRON in the Jean-Luc Lagardere.
He’s looked really smart in winning all three starts. The way he brushed aside three last-time-out winners in the Newbury Listed contest in August was particularly pleasing.
This doesn’t look the deepest Group 1 so Richard Hannon’s youngster is definitely worth a shot at it.
He looks to have Anodor to beat. He followed up his debut success by beating outsider Insandi and Shaman in a Longchamp Group 3.
It was a nice performance to make all the running for a two-length victory but the form is not particularly strong.
Royal Marine is predictably bred to be smart and there was a lot to like about his Doncaster maiden win. It wouldn’t surprise me if he went well.
3.05: Make Class pay in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. SEA OF CLASS has been brilliant this summer. She swooped late to land the Irish Oaks and then bolted up at York.
The dry autumn weather has been just the ticket as she needs fast ground. A wide draw will put some off but she has to sit in the rear early on before coming with a late run.
She might need the breaks but it’s hard to see how she won’t get a decent pace to aim at. There’s no doubt last year’s winner Enable is the one to beat.
She extended the superb recent record of fillies in this race 12 months ago when making it six victorious females from the last seven years.
It was a good Arc as well and she took the field apart. A problem kept her off the track until last month when she brushed aside Crystal Ocean on the all-weather at Kempton.
That could well be a blessing in disguise as she is fresher than her rivals.
Much-improved Waldgeist is best of the French-trained contenders and I fancy St Leger hero Kew Gardens could come out on top of Aidan O’Brien’s five runners.
3.50: It should pay to be WITH YOU in the Prix de ‘lOpera. She butted heads with some of the top three-year-old fillies this summer and hasn’t been at all disgraced.
My fancy twice got close to Laurens in top-level prizes before coming right away to land the Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
There was nothing wrong with her third behind top filly Alpha Centauri in August and she has since been freshened up by a break.
Oaks runner-up Wild Illusion – shock winner on this card 12 months ago – came clear of Urban Fox to win the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
I’m not convinced that was the strongest Group 1 and this certainly looks more competitive.
Magic Wand – winner of Royal Ascot’s Ribblesdale Stakes – drops in trip after twice having her limitations exposed by Sea Of Class.
Templegates Longchamp tips
- 1.20 – Rocques
- 1.55 – Boitron
- 3.05 – Sea Of Class
- 3.50 – With You
- 4.25 – Battaash
- 5.00 – Tornibush
4.25: Don’t lose faith in Batman. BATTAASH is the quickest sprinter I’ve ever seen and his odds-on Nunthorpe flop doesn’t put me off his chances today.
He was super impressive in this race 12 months ago and was again breath-taking at Glorious Goodwood.
Charlie Hills’ speedster was clearly nowhere near his best at York and it could be he just doesn’t like the pace. I’m expecting him to show his sizzling speed today.
Alpha Delphini was a shock winner of the Nunthorpe when nosing out Mabs Cross. Whether they can back that form up remains to be seen.
Smart two-year-old Soldier’s Call is interesting getting a stone or more from the rest of the field.

5.00: Pick some cash from the money Bush. TORNIBUSH will be a tasty price and there are plenty of reasons to expect him to run very well.
He had Inns Of Court back in third when landing a Group 3 over today’s course and distance three weeks ago and he still appears to be improving.
Polydream is sure to be popular after coming out of the pack to nail James Garfield in a Deauville Group 1 in August.
Third-placed The Tin Man came out to win the Haydock Sprint Cup so the form has plenty of substance to it.
He is the one to beat but his June defeat of Inns Of Court matches up closely with Tornibush.
Gustav Klimt is frustrating and Hungerford Stakes winner Sir Dancealot has been handed a tricky draw.

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.
Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”
Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”

Height: 5ft 8in
Weight: 9st 4lb
SATC star Kim swears by gym sessions with Russian kettle bells (traditional cast-iron weights) and the South Beach Diet to give her the body she wants. To avoid overeating, Kim has a radical diet trick – squirting lemon juice on her leftovers – so she won’t carry on picking.
Kim says: “I am no super-thin Hollywood actress. I am built for men who like women to look like women.”
