DONALD Trump’s Supreme Court nominee has denied an historical allegation of sexual assault – after a woman claimed he drunkenly groped her at a party.
Brett Kavanaugh, 53, was spotted at the White House yesterday amid growing questions over his ability to serve on America’s highest court.
Christin Blasey Ford came forward on Sunday night and claimed Kavanaugh had pinned her to the bed and tried to take off her clothes when they were both teens in high school.
Kavanaugh, who has been undergoing questioning by the Senate Judiciary Committee before his confirmation vote, called the allegation “completely false”.
He said: “I have never done anything like what the accuser describes—to her or to anyone.
“Because this never happened, I had no idea who was making this accusation until she identified herself yesterday.
“I am willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the Committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity.”
The allegation against Kavanaugh first came to light late last week in a letter handed to a Democrat member of the committee.
Ford, 51, a clinical psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California, then gave an interview to the Washington Post describing the incident.
She said a drunken Kavanaugh groped her and tried to take off her clothes at a party when she was 15 and he was 17 in suburban Maryland.
Ford claimed he put his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming.
She said: “I thought he might inadvertently kill me.
He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.”
The alleged attack was broken up when a pal of Kavanaugh’s jumped on top of them and she managed to wriggle free.
Ford, a Democrat supporter, says she didn’t reveal what had happened until 2012, when she and her husband sought couples therapy.
Ford’s husband, Russell Ford, said he recalled his wife using Kavanaugh’s last name and expressing concern that Kavanaugh – then a federal judge – might someday be nominated to the Supreme Court.
Debra Katz, Ford’s lawyer, said she was willing to tell her story publicly to the judiciary panel – denying she was politically motivated.
Currently a judge on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Kavanaugh seemed to be on a smooth confirmation track to the Supreme Court.
But there now pressure to hear testimony from Ford – potentially delaying his confirmation vote past the mid-term US elections in November.
With Republicans facing heavy losses at the mid-terms, there is a possibility that they could lose a vote for Kavanaugh as their pick if that happens.

But White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway said of Ford yesterday: “She should not be insulted.
“She should not be ignored.
“She should testify under oath, and she should do it on Capitol Hill.”
