New photo Didier Deschamps says ‘leader’ Paul Pogba can’t do it all for Manchester United by himself

DIDIER DESCHAMPS has hailed Paul Pogba as a true leader – but says Manchester United cannot expect him to do everything on his own.

Pogba is has been under the biggest scrutiny of all the stuttering United players as the club lurches from one problem to another this season.

Many are looking at the 25-year-old to be the one who drags the side kicking and screaming through the rough patch and back to a position of strength.

But France manager Deschamps says United cannot just rely on the former Juventus star – they need to find other players to help him too.

Deschamps said: “For Paul it depends not only on him but also the team he is in, the collective way of playing.

“It is not a case of one player who makes the team win.”

Speaking to the Observer, the man who led France to World Cup glory last summer has also lifted the lid on the real Pogba.

And he insists he is far removed from the brash social media celebrity he is portrayed as.

Deschamps said: “There are a few things people ought to know. First of all there is an image of Paul that doesn’t correspond to who he is. Maybe it is because he is a bit eccentric, a bit demonstrative.

“His image in the media makes everything quite complicated. The amount of the transfer to Manchester United is ridiculous – it wasn’t easy to manage.

“He has taken many things upon himself. He has been a leader. Each time he had to talk and express himself it was always very positive.

“It’s the words he uses and the atmosphere and feeling that comes across.

“He is not the only one but he is one of the leaders who took it upon himself because the group needed it. On the pitch he did what needed to be done as well.”
