New photo Love Island's Megan Barton-Hanson details her struggles with depression and anxiety

Love Island star Megan Barton-Hanson has candidly discussed how she battled with anxiety and depression prior to entering the show.

The 24-year-old former exotic dancer shared an impassioned post on Instagram as she detailed being in 'a bad space' just one year ago, before admitting to her pride at attending the TV Choice Awards on Monday evening.

Sharing a snap before she headed into the awards, the show favourite gave a nod to her beau Wes Nelson, who she met in the villa, for helping her overcome her demons while also urging her followers to 'dream big'.

Megan was a late entrant into the show and while she grew intimate with Eyal Booker and shared a kiss with Alex George, she soon turned her attentions to Wes - despite the fact he was paired with Laura Anderson, however his head was soon turned.

While she found love in the villa, she was subject to much scrutiny on the outside as her past as an exotic dancer and glamour model became known.

Despite this, she left the show in third place and has won fans all over - particularly after her appearance on Good Morning Britain in which she lobbied for society to stop judging women on their sexual past.

She has now given further inspiration to her fans as she revealed her battle with mental illness before sharing an encouraging message with her fans.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
