Kyle Sandilands made no secret of his contempt for Tom Gleeson and the ABC before interviewing the Hard Chat comedian KIIS FM on Tuesday.

During a tense and argumentative interview, which bordered between banter and genuine hostility, the two men exchanged various insults and personal remarks.

While the purpose of the interview was to promote Tom's new show Hard Quiz, the majority of the segment was dedicated to blasting the ABC and Hard Chat.

Kyle, 47, hurled various insults at Tom, 44, throughout the segment, describing the funnyman as a 'red-headed rat rooter', 'dictionary-reading type' and 'pre-ejaculator', and told listeners that he didn't even want him on the show.

He also repeatedly claimed 'nobody watches the ABC' and proudly boasted how he refused to appear on Hard Chat as an unpaid celebrity guest.

However, the ABC star defended himself by suggesting that Kyle was perhaps unwilling to be roasted because he's secretly insecure. 

'People that do the segment Hard Chat, I find are very comfortable with themselves and aware of their own faults,' Tom said, adding: '[And] I think you're full of self loathing and you don't want that to be exposed.'

'People don't like a smartarse, Gleeson!' Kyle snapped back.

Tom later admitted he 'doesn't like' The Kyle and Jackie O Show based on the few times he heard it broadcast in the evening on Melbourne radio.

'It sounded fine, but it wasn't a reason to tune in again,' he sniped.

Towards the end of the interview, however, the two men appeared to warm to each other and exchanged some friendly laughs.

Finding common ground, Kyle said: 'He's very much like me... You're like Brooklyn [Ross, newsreader] and I had sex, and you came out'.
