JOSE MOURINHO has warned Paul Pogba that no player is bigger than Manchester United.
The Red Devils boss told Pogba this week that he would never captain the club again.
They also had a training ground confrontation over an Instagram posting by Pogba of him laughing during Tuesday’s defeat on penalties to Derby.
Mourinho said: “He’s a player like the others, no player is bigger than the club and if I’m happy with his work he plays if I’m not happy he doesn’t play,
“Manchester United is bigger than anyone and I have to defend that.”
Having said that Mourinho emphasised that nobody trained better than Pogba this week and that he would definitely start at West Ham tomorrow.
He said: “I’m happy with his work this week, really happy, Tuesday, Wwednesday and Thursday especially because today was not so significant but he trained really well.
“Nobody trained better than him, some trained as well, and tomorrow he plays, so end of the story.”
Mourinho explained that he had studied Pogba’s three games with the armband this season and that he and his coaching staff decided he was not captain material.
He said: “I explained very detailed to the people that has to know in detail, which is the squad and especially Paul.

“So Paul and the other players in the squad know in detail the reason why myself and my coaching staff, we decide to do that.
“I always analyse a player as a player when a player is captain, I analyse the player by the player and captain perspective.
“After weeks of analysing and changing opinions with my coaching staff we made the decision Paul is just a a player and not a captain, decision made.”
The tipping point for Mourinho, however, came with Pogba’s criticism of his tactics following the 1-1 home draw with Wolves.
He claimed United needed to attack more.
Mourinho told Pogba his words showed a disrespect to him as manager and to the club as a whole.
Yet the boss claimed today that player and manager have a good working relationship.
He said: “I think Paul said in one of his appearances in the famous mixed zone and, he is correct – it is a good relation, player – manager.”
Mourinho tried to play down the confrontation on Wednesday in front of the cameras which turned out to be a misunderstanding over the timing of an Instagram posting.
He said: “I think for you was amazing because you made a story, an incredible story out of 15 minutes of open training session.
“What happened the other day happens many days. Conversations with players I have many, many, many times.
“Loud critic, loud instruction happens every day, coaching is about that but you make a story about it.
“So I’m happy the rules are only 15 mins once a month and situations like that aren’t going to change, there is no chance you will watch a session.”
It was put to Mourinho that he did not have to have the confrontation in front of the cameras.
He replied: “I have to train as always, I don’t care about the cameras. What confrontation?”
