New photo 'Acid attack victim' rushed to hospital after liquid is thrown in face as he sat in his car

An acid attack victim has said a restaurant tried to charge his partner for water used to save him, in a scathing Facebook post from his hospital bed.

Mike Glover-Johnson, 46, has taken to the social media platform after reportedly having acid thrown over his face this evening as he sat in his car.

In the post, he also claims the Chunky Grill restaurant in Bloxwich, Walsall 'threw [him] out' on the street as his 'face was burning with acid'.

He writes: 'Any witnesses to me being randomly attacked with acid this evening?

'Thankfully people helped and their quick reactions may have stopped permanent scarring.

'But Chunky Grill in Bloxwich threw me out while my face was burning with acid and demanded payment from Lee for the water that was saving me.

'Yes you read it correctly. Hopefully whoever did this gets caught. And Chunky Grill owes me and Bloxwich an explanation.'

Police were sent to High Street in Bloxwich, Walsall at around 6.50pm and are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mr Glover-Johnson, who is in his forties, had a 'corrosive substance' thrown on his face while waiting on the West Midlands road.

Hundreds have commented on his Facebook post which has been shared more than 3,000 times.

His partner Lee Glover-Johnson, 46, spoke to MailOnline about the horrifying incident.

A number of enquiries are underway, including a CCTV trawl, officers are also trying to identify what the substance was. Pictured: Scene of the attack

He said: 'We were both coming home from work together when we stopped to get food at a takeaway.

'While I was in the Chunky Grill someone opened the door to Mike's car and told him to sit still.

'Then they just threw this substance in his face. There was no robbery or anything like that. It just seems malicious.'

Lee and Mike married just one year ago and now work together at Stonehouse Pizza & Carvery in Birmingham.

Addressing the behaviour of the takeaway, Lee said: 'Mike had come to the door asking us to call the police. I then asked for water to pour on his face.

'But they only gave us a little bottle and eventually asked us to leave as it was making a mess.

'In the end they did come out with a little more while we were on the street.'

Responding to the allegations, Sayed Hashmi, 34, the owner of Chunky Grill said he did all he could to help Mr Glover-Johnson.

He said: 'We did give them water and we didn't turn them away from the restaurant.

'We have also just finished handing over our CCTV to the police which shows the attack taking place.'

The owner has also taken to Facebook, writing: 'I need to clarify the confusion that Mr Mike has NOT been charged for water but instead provided him with a couple of buckets of water as well.

'In the footage seen in the presence of police shows that Mr Mike has been helped and assisted. Deeply feel sorry for misunderstanding created that Mike has been charged for a bottle of water.'

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: 'The investigation is at an early stage, the motive is unknown and police are keeping an open mind.

'A number of enquiries are underway, including a CCTV trawl, officers are also trying to identify what the substance was.

'At this stage officers believe this to be an isolated incident.'
