Tory chairman Brandon Lewis dodged questions on whether he would quit over a major security breach in the party's conference app today.

Mr Lewis insisted he was focused on delivering a successful conference after the humiliating revelation Cabinet ministers' mobile numbers had been exposed.

The glitch on CPC 2018 meant they could log in without a password using just members' email addresses and view contact details of people such as Boris Johnson.

Trolls then changed the former Foreign Secretary's photo to a pornographic image and edited his title to say 'd**k head', according to reports.

The breach allowed anybody to log into the party conference app with just their email address, and without requiring any password or security measures. Once inside the app users were all to access MPs numbers, email addresses and even swap their profile photos for hardcore pornography

They also edited his position to 'HARD BORDER' - referring to the heated debate about the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Pranksters were also able to ring the phones of senior MPs including Home Secretary Sajid Javid, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson.

Michael Gove's profile picture was replaced with one of media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.

Asked if he'd considered resigning Mr Lewis told Sky News: 'Look, at the moment I'm focused on making sure the conference goes well.

'Yesterday we got that app sorted as quickly as we possibly can. We'll get to the bottom of exactly how that happened and why it happened.'

Mr Lewis said both the Tory party and the third party company responsible for developing it had apologised for the embarrassing blunder.

The blunder comes on the eve of the conference in Birmingham, and will cause headaches for ministers including Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson who both had their accounts hacked

The blunder on the eve of the conference in Birmingham caused headaches for ministers whose accounts were targeted.

Once logged in as that person, they were able to access information including their mobile phone numbers.

Images posted to Twitter on Saturday afternoon showed people logging in as Boris Johnson and Michael Gove among others and apparently leaving messages on its internal messaging system.

Guardian Columnist Dawn Foster, who was one of the first to spot the flaw, wrote: 'FFS, the Tory conference app allows you to log in as other people and view their contact details just with their email address, no emailed security links, and post comments as them.

'They've essentially made every journalist, politician and attendee's mobile number public. Fantastic.'

Mr Lewis was singled out for particular criticism by furious MPs

'It is disgraceful that people can access the personal details of MPs because of the utter incompetence of Conservative Campaign headquarters,' said a senior Tory MP.

'This can put people's safety at risk. Brandon Lewis needs to get a grip.'

Some MPs were reported to be changing their mobile numbers as a result.

Mr Lewis had been due to unveil the interactive app – which allows members to comment on speeches live – at conference today, as part of a raft of measures aimed at overhauling 'the oldest and most successful political party in the world'.

A spokesman for the UK data watchdog, the Information Commissioner's Office, confirmed it was investigating the breach, saying: 'Organisations have a legal duty to keep personal data safe and secure.'

The massive data breach could now leave the Conservative Party open to fines and an investigation by the Information Commissioner.

The app, created by an Australian firm called Crown Comms, was updated and the login function removed after concerns were raised with the party.

Jon Trickett, shadow cabinet office minister, said: 'How can we trust this Tory Government with our country's security when they can't even build a conference app that keeps the data of their members, MPs and others attending safe and secure?

'The Conservative Party should roll out some basic computer security training to get their house in order.'
