RANGERS striker Alfredo Morelos has been hit with a four-match ban for his Old Firm red card on Sunday.
The Colombian was dismissed for an elbow on Scott Brown after just 31 minutes of his side’s 2-1 defeat at Celtic Park.
Morelos, 22, was banned for two games, but the Scottish FA has doubled his sanction as it was his fifth sending off of the season.
After repeatedly backing his player after four red cards, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said he cannot defend Morelos any more.
He told Rangers TV: “He’ll be punished internally and we’ll move forward.”
The reality is if you raise your arm, you leave yourself wide open.
“Obviously he’s been provoked in the first place but it’s happened on too many occasions now.
“I’ve gone above and beyond – I’ve backed Alfredo more than enough and I can’t defend him any more.”
The South American’s first red was for kicking out at after a clash with Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna in August, the dismissal was later chalked off.
Morelos saw red against the Dons another two times after another clash with McKenna, but this time he didn’t get away with it and was at it again when he clashed out at Graeme Shinnie.
The forward failed to control himself in the Europa League against FC Ufa after receiving a second yellow card for dissent, having already been cautioned for kicking the ball away.

Meanwhile, Andy Halliday will serve a one-match ban for his Old Firm dismissal.
The Rangers midfielder received a second yellow after the final whistle for a clash with Brown, who was celebrating in front of the away fans, which sparked a melee.
Ryan Kent, who scored Rangers’ equaliser, will find out on Tuesday if he faces retrospective action for shoving Brown after Celtic’s winner.
