THE Widow has kicked off on ITV and viewers have been hooked from the offset.
But is Georgia’s husband Will alive? And is the show based on a true story? Here’s the lowdown…
Is Will alive in The Widow?
The show follows Georgia Wells, a widow whose husband Will supposedly died in a plane crash on a trip to Africa.
Three years after Will’s death, she sees a man resembling her husband on a news story reporting civil unrest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Suspecting that everything is not what it seems, Georgia travels to Kinshasha to uncover the truth.
She starts to look for answers particularly concerned with the reason why her husband – she believes – faked his own death.
In spoiler from tonight’s show, Will is seen with a gun being held to his head – THREE YEARS after he was meant to have died.
The show runs for eight episodes, and what happened to Will and if he’s alive will be revealed.
Is The Widow based on a true story?
No. But the story is that convincing that it will have you believing it is.
The Widow was written by Harry and Jack Williams, the brother duo behind similarly haunting, high-octane shows like The Missing and One of Us.
The two brothers are also responsible for big TV shows like Liar and more recently Baptiste.
The series is produced by their production house Two Brothers Pictures.
Harry Williams told the Express: “It’s definitely a different vibe to Baptiste.
“The Widow has got a bigger scale. There are some big action moments but it’s still a very character-led thriller at its heart.
“There’s a lot of two-handers, a lot of twists and turns. There’s a big cast and a big canvas. By the time we get to the end, I think it’s very satisfying.
“Like The Missing it does play with time and you do have flashbacks but it has that kind of intrigue going for it.
“We had a real end point and we just wanted to work towards that.”

When is The Widow on TV?
The Widow started on April 8, 2019 at 9pm.
The second episode will air TONIGHT (April 9, 2019) at the same time, and then it will run on Monday and Tuesday thereafter for eight episodes.
Once the show has aired you will be able to watch it on the ITV Hub.
