A Russian oligarch who won a battle to keep his £350 million mega yacht in a furious divorce battle with his wife has wasted no time in getting it shipshape.

Farkhad Akhmedov, 62, was given leave to sail away in the Luna on Wednesday after it was impounded in Dubai as part of a bitter divorce battle with ex-Tatiana.

The mother-of-two had previously won a freezing order on his worldwide assets after the oil and gas tycoon refused to pay her half his £1bn fortune following their split.

After the appeal court ruling in the United Arab Emirates, the vessel could be seen moored up in Dubai's Port Rashid with workmen swabbing the decks on Thursday morning.

Senior appeal judges ruled the divorce settlement awarded to Mrs Akhmedov by a British court couldn’t be enforced in Dubai.

The workers could be seen toiling in the baking heat of the Gulf, adding teak flooring on the lower deck while a private security personnel stood guard today.

Akhmedov's ex-wife Tatiana

Officials in Moscow have said they can't find any record of the split in 2002, but Akhmedov insists he and his wife were no longer married when she filed for divorce in 2014

After a year being moored in the Arab kingdom Mr Akhmedov is now free to take it back out to sea to a destination of his choice.

A spokesman for the oligarch said yesterday: ‘Mr Akhmedov is delighted but not surprised by today’s court decision in favour of the Akhmedov family trust.

‘Luna is one of the assets of a family trust which was set up for the benefit of all his family and dependants, and he is confident that no court anywhere in the world will endorse Tatiana’s unlawful attempts to take it away from them.'

The super yacht – one of the world's most luxurious vessels – has been at the centre of an epic and costly divorce battle for over three years.

Mr Akhmedov has refused a ruling by a British court that he must pay his ex £453million, half his fortune, claiming he and his wife were already divorced when they lived in Moscow.

He made several clean break divorce settlement offers worth over £100m – but they were rejected by his wife.

A spokesman for Mr Akhmedov said: 'He believes the attempts by Tatiana and her team, backed for profit by Burford Capital, to tie down family assets around the world are as misguided as the original English High Court was in granting Tatiana a second divorce 16 years after their marriage was validly dissolved in Russia.'
