MPs in the House of Commons last night rejected Theresa May’s Brexit Withdrawal Agreement by a whopping 432 votes to 202.

Meanwhile, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has tabled a no-confidence motion against the Government. Will May cling to power again?

Will Theresa May resign after her Brexit deal defeat?

Despite having the backing of many of her MPs who pledged their support to the PM after her Brexit bill was shot down, it is still unknown if May will survive.

The huge gap of 230 votes between those in favour of May’s deal and those who voted against it is clear proof of extreme division in Parliament.

It is clear that her authority has been severely damaged.

May could resign or choose to fight another day, which is all-too possible given the lack of alternative candidates in the Tory Party.

If May resigns, the party will seek new leadership which will be either contested, taking six to eight weeks, or someone is appointed due to all other candidates backing out.

The latter could take a week or ten days, which could result in the UK asking for a temporary extension of Article 50.
