A teacher at a Catholic school has been suspended for telling 14-year-old girls to pack condoms with them on a school skiing trip to Italy.

Science teacher Dave Cuthbertson, 53, had been due to go on the holiday but was told to stay at home by Chatsmore Catholic High School after parents heard about the comments from their children.

One concerned parent told The Sun: 'Some girls were upset at the idea they'd be having sex instead of skiing.

'Telling underage kids they should bring condoms on a school trip - a Catholic one at that - is disgusting.'

The school, in Goring-By-Sea, West Sussex, said: 'Safeguarding is our main priority. The matter's closed.'

The school has 627 pupils aged between 11 and 16 and was rated 'good' in its latest Ofsted inspection.

The report noted the importance of the school's 'strong Catholic ethos' which had created a 'caring, supportive and highly motivated learning community'.

'Pupils reported that they feel safe and well supported in the school,' the report continued.

'They acknowledged the positive impact of the changes introduced since your arrival such as the rewards policy and the sharp focus on teaching, learning and assessment.'
