The search for a reveller who went missing on a Christmas night out has been suspended after police found a body in a fishing lake.

Jack Morrad, 28, was last seen in the early hours of December 23 in Broadhurst Place, Basildon.

Essex Police said night fishermen had reported hearing a man in the area of the lake in Gloucester Park at around 2am on December 23.

An operation to drain millions of gallons of water from the lake began on Wednesday, and the force said a man's body was discovered shortly before 11.30am on Thursday.

'The body is yet to be identified, but Mr Morrad's family have been informed that the search has been suspended,' a force spokesman said. 

'Formal identification will take place in due course.'

Stars of Towie, Love Island and Rylan Clarke had all joined in the social media campaign for information after the 28-year-old was last seen leaving the town's Colors nightclub.

CCTV footage showed Jack walking down a road close to the park.

The process of draining the lake was carried out by the Environment Agency.
