And it seems Michael Owen used his cash wisely as fans were given a glimpse into the 39-year-old retired sport star's lavish family home in the Welsh countryside during an episode of ITV's Through the Keyhole.
Keith Lemon took viewers on a tour of the £4 million mansion, which Michael purchased back in 2001 and lives in with wife Louise Bonsall and their children: Gemma, 15, James, 12, Emily, 11, and Jessica, eight.

The Grade II listed manor usually has plenty of privacy as it is nestled within 42 acres of countryside in the Welsh village of Northop, near Mold.
And with plenty of greenery surrounding the home, there's room for a putting green as well as a large children's play area, which Keith couldn't resist having a go on as he showed viewers the garden.
Inside the delights continue, with the lavish open plan kitchen and dining area boasting a luxe grey colour scheme and being kitted out with crushed velvet bar stools and a quilted breakfast bar.
Meanwhile, the lounge are had a slightly more homely feel, with wood panelling on the walls and large brown leather sofas artfully arranged in the large living space.

The ex-England international first suffered a torn hamstring at the age of 19, forcing him to spend five months on the sidelines, and a series of similar injuries seriously affected the second half of his career.

He told BT Sport: 'Once I did it once I was gone really. I was quick, running in channels, beating people. That's who I was — compared to the last six or so years when I turned into the only thing I could.
'I was petrified of running into a channel. I just knew I was going to tear a muscle. The worst thing about it is your instinct is to do what you have done all your life but you start thinking: 'Oh no, don't.''
'For six or seven years I hated playing football,' he added. 'I couldn't wait to retire.
