CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN is set to snub a new Tottenham deal as he chases a Real Madrid switch, according to reports.
The Danish playmaker, 26, is out of contract in 2020 and little progress has been made with talks.
Now, Spanish outlet AS quoted a source close to the player suggesting an agreement is looking “very, very difficult”.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy are determined to keep Eriksen, who is a key figure.
And while it is hugely unlikely they will flog him mid-season, a summer sale may be necessary to cash in as players entering the last year of their contracts dramatically lose their value.
AS’ source added: “Eriksen sees Madrid as a very big club. For him it would be a great honour to play in the Bernabeu.
“When we talk about great clubs, of course we talk about Madrid. It could be the first option.”
Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots has distanced himself from the speculation, telling the paper the ace would like to “focus on his football” and “we’ll see what the future brings”.

The 85-cap international moved to White Hart Lane from Ajax in 2013 and has come on leaps and bounds since.
Pochettino in particular has been a huge influence on Eriksen and could even end up in the Spanish capital with him at one point.
