"Many Photos" - UK weather forecast: More SNOW and -7C COLDER as 94 schools close due to Arctic blast hitting UK

WEATHER forecasters predict the UK will shiver in lows of -7C tonight before an Arctic blast will blow more snow in over the weekend.

The Met Office extended its ice warning again into Thursday after 94 schools closed today in Buckinghamshire amid chaos on Britain’s roads and transport networks due to the freezing weather front.

The deep chill tonight could even be the coldest night of the year for some parts of the country — after a staggering -10.8C was clocked in Braemar in Scotland already this winter.

East Anglia will be particularly freezing tonight where the mercury could fall all the way to -7C.

And although milder temperatures tomorrow will brighten some spirits, icy polar winds will bring more sleet and snow over the weekend.

Met Office Meteorologist Alex Burkill told The Sun Online: “Saturday and Sunday will see a return of the cold air and that brings sleet and snow.

“It is always most likely over the mountains of Scotland but the air is so cold you could get some at lower levels of around 100-200m, which isn’t very high ground at all.”

The North and North West of England are most likely to see more snow this weekend and early into next week.

But analysis of weather charts by Wxcharts.eu show that snow could hound Britain for another fortnight.

Figures for today show that up to 10cm could have fallen in the north-west of Scotland, with up to 5cm possible in large parts of the country.

Graphs show similar forecasts for tomorrow, with most snow falling in north-west Scotland and scatterings of up to 5cm possible in large parts of North England and the South East.

Dramatic photos showed snow blasting Britain last night, from London through to Lancashire and Londonderry.

And by next Friday, graphs indicate that snowfall could rise to a projected 15cm.

On Wednesday the Met Office extended their severe ice warning for most of the UK for a third consecutive day.

The warning is in place from 6pm this evening until 11am tomorrow — after today’s ended only at 11am.

Only London, south west England and most of Wales have escaped the warning, as the forecaster warns of ice on untreated roads and longer journey times.

Ladbrokes have meanwhile slashed odds on this being the coldest winter ever after the latest snowfall.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said Northern Ireland saw “some significant accumulations” yesterday which later “pushed across Wales, central parts of England and towards the South East”.

“We’ve seen a few centimetres in particular over the hills, but also a good dusting of snow to lower levels as well.”

She said Wednesday will be one of the coldest days of the week, “but with a lot of sunshine to compensate”.

“Those concerned about the yellow warnings should allow extra time for journeys and take extra care on untreated roads and pavements,” she said.

“It’s patches of ice left over from snow showers that people should look out for.”

Some coastal showers will continue overnight while many central and eastern areas are expected to be clear, cold and frosty.

Although the weather will warm slightly towards the end of the week, more cold weather is set for the weekend.

She added: “Gradually some slightly warmer air will push in for the latter part of the week, but we have a band of rain pushing in Saturday which will push much colder air in behind it.”

UK forecast for the next 5 days

Tonight:

Some coastal showers will continue overnight, but many central and eastern areas will be clear, cold and frosty. Western parts will turn cloudier with patchy rain, sleet and hill snow.

Thursday:

Sunny and cold for most, especially through central and eastern parts. Cloud will thicken in the west with outbreaks of rain, and hill snow in the north late afternoon.

Friday to Sunday:

Breezy, often cloudy but milder on Friday, with patchy rain and hill fog. Heavy rain will push southwards through Saturday. Sunday, colder and windy with sunshine and wintry showers.
