Alex Nation fell head over heels for Richie Strahan on The Bachelor in 2016.

But the pair parted ways in a matter of months, with reports claiming they'd kept their February 2017 split a secret for some time before revealing they'd split. 

And now the 27-year-old has revealed the real reason the couple didn't see their happily ever after.

'For Richie and I, it was particularly hard, because our whole relationship was long distance, inevitably that was where we fell apart,' she told News.com.au.

She added: 'We had internal as well as external pressures. Then we went quiet on social media because things went quiet in our relationship, and we had everyone speculating which put more pressure on us.'

Alex described the social media interest as 'brutal' but says that the pair parted ways amicably.

The blonde told the publication: 'The good thing about Richie and I is that we did communicate. But a relationship breakup is hard anyway.' 

The mother-of-one first broke her silence on the split in November last year, writing on Instagram: 'Richie is a great person. He'll still get his ever after. 

'We both hoped for things to work, but sometimes things in life simply don't work out for us. You cherish the nice memories and you move forward.'

Alex went on to have a high-profile relationship with AFL player Maegan Luxa, 31, before the pair reportedly split earlier this year. 

Previously, Alex has been outspoken about the pitfalls of being thrust into the media spotlight with her admitting in July it caused an identity crisis.  

During a Q&A with fans, she said: '[The Bachelor] changed me negatively because I think I lost sight of who I was for a while.'

Alex, who is a mother to son Elijah, admitted that her sudden fame made her intensely focused on staying in the spotlight.
