A TEEN who was allegedly drugged, raped and robbed on Thailand’s notorious “death island” has warned fellow backpackers to stay clear.
The 19-year-old Briton claims Thai authorities had tried to publicly discredit her rather than investigate her claims about her horrific ordeal on Koh Tao.
Speaking for the first time about her ordeal, she told The Times, police were suppressing the truth about the brutal attack because they fear it would damage the island’s money spinning tourist industry.
The alleged victim, from London, said: “I would urge other young people to stay away. I would never feel safe going back to Koh Tao.
“I wouldn’t tell people not to go to Thailand in general, it is one of my favourite countries. But it is a beautiful place with a dark side that blinds you.”
Koh Tao is popular spot for British backpackers.
But it became notorious in 2014 when Hannah Witheridge, 23, and her friend David Miller, 24, were bludgeoned to death on the beach.
Following a series of unexplained backpacker deaths it has since become known as “death island”.
This week twelve people were threatened with arrest after sharing details of the latest alleged attack on Facebook.
The London woman said that she was attacked in the early hours of June 26 on Sairee beach.
This was the same place where Ms Witheridge was raped before her murder.
She believes that her rum and coke was drugged in one of the bars along the beach.
She felt tired and left the bar and cannot remember anything since.
A male friend who ordered a drink at the same time suffered drowsiness and then blackout, she says.
Speaking from her home she said: “The next thing I remember is waking up. My shorts and underwear were off me.
“A Thai guy was standing over me. As I woke up he just smiled at me and then he took off.”He’d taken my phone, my money, my cards.
“I had really bad burn grazes on my knee which I’ve got scars from. I was in a lot of pain and I was covered in sand.”
Thai 'death island's bloody role call of victims
Nick Pearson, 25, was found floating in an island bay, at the foot of a 50ft drop on New Year’s Day 2014.
Despite claims of a fall, he had no broken bones. While police ruled out foul play, Nick’s family, who say officers did not investigate a single witness, believe he was murdered.
Hannah Witheridge, 23, from Norfolk and David Miller, 24, of Jersey were bludgeoned to death with a wooden hoe as they walked back to their hotel room late at night.
Hannah was also raped in the attack in September 2014.
Frenchman Dimitri Povse, 29, was found hanged in a bungalow on the island on New Year’s Day 2015.
His death was ruled as suicide but police could not explain why his hands were tied behind his back.
Later that month, graduate Christina Annesley, 23, was said to have died of natural causes after mixing antibiotics she was taking for a chest infection with alcohol. However, no toxicology report was conducted.
In March 2015 Russian tourist Valentina Novozhyonova, 23, vanished from her hostel on Koh Tao in mid-February – sparking a police search.
She had checked into the hostel on February 11 and was due to check out on February 16 – but failed to do so.
A few days later, staff checked her room to discover her mobile phone, passport and camera had all been left behind.
Bricklayer Luke Miller was found at the bottom of a swimming pool at the Sunset Bar at Sairee Beach in January 2016.
His family accused the Thai police of a cover-up.
Belgian backpacker Elise Dallemagne, 30, was found hanged in the hills on the island on April 28, 2017.

She took the boat to Koh Phangan where she reported the rape but she said that the police refused to investigate because the alleged crime happened on another island.
No forensics were carried out even though her T-shirt was covered in semen.
It was only after the alleged victim’s mum spoke out because she was so horrified by the lack of police action that an inquiry was opened last week.
Police have threatened to ban the woman from Thailand, claiming she made up the rape to cover up having sex with a British friend who wasn’t her boyfriend, which she denies.
