As a keen foodie, Meghan has previously spoken about her love of home-grown and organic produce on her lifestyle blog, The Tig, which was shut down after her wedding.

She is likely to run her Frogmore garden under the organic principles that both she and her father-in-law, Prince Charles, live by.

A royal source told the Daily Mail: “The duchess has a passion for cooking so it was suggested to include a small plot in the spacious garden where they can grow some of their own produce.

“She regularly cooks for Prince Harry and the cottage will be the perfect place for her to prepare meals with some home grown produce from their own garden.

“It is understood that she wants to be able grow vegetables, herbs and soft fruits.”

Meghan and Marry have now made the big move to the Grade II-listed home in Windsor ahead of the arrival of their first child.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been living in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace which is also the home to Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.

The royal couple wanted to have time to settle in ahead of the birth of baby Sussex who is expected to arrive later this month.

The parents-to-be had faced delays on their move while building works took place during the major redevelopment of the property.

A royal source said: “It’s been all hands to the pump. The builders have worked all week whatever the weather. But they keep making changes, particularly on the layout.

“The word is they’ve been quite demanding, which is understandable as what homeowner doesn’t want their house to be perfect?”

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, have knocked down many of the interior walls to create five huge bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms.

They have views over Windsor Great Park and the gardens of Frogmore House, where they held their wedding party last year.

A huge kitchen diner has been created.

The couple have also ordered alcove bookcases to go next to new fireplaces and vanity units.

Last week builders on cranes put in chimney liners for log burners.

The source said: “Given the scale of the project, a three or four-week delay isn’t too bad. The couple are pleased with how it’s all going.”

The couple’s new home is nestled in the grounds of Windsor Castle’s Home Park in Berkshire where they said their I dos less than a year ago.

Former actress Meghan is believed to be entering the final weeks of her pregnancy and The Sun on Sunday revealed today that she has chosen to shun giving birth in the Lindo Wing.

The wing is where both Diana and Kate Middleton gave birth and has been used by the Royal Family for the past 40 years.

The pair were due to be given their keys to the renovated cottage this month, but works to the properties layout have taken longer than expected.

Security has been stepped up ahead of their arrival, with armed cops on duty in sentry boxes.

The Windsor move will leave Harry and Meghan without a London base, as they are giving up their home at Kensington Palace.

But aides say they could be given an apartment at Buckingham Palace after its £369million renovation.

It comes just a few days after Harry and Meghan’s official Instagram was launched, breaking them away from the Kensington Palace account they had shared with Kate and William.

In other royal news we revealed that the new royal baby won’t be called prince or princess unless the Queen steps in.

And we also revealed Meghan Markle will need to follow these royal pregnancy rules as she and Prince Harry prepare for parenthood.
