MANCHESTER UNITED will battle against rivals City to sign Atletico Madrid ace Saul Niguez, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side want him to play alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the midfield – but he is expected to cost £128million.

According to ESPN, United have joined a number of Europe’s biggest clubs in the race to secure his signature this summer.

Manchester City emerged as early favourites to sign him as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

But the source suggests Pep Guardiola’s men have named Atletico team-mate Rodri Hernandez as an alternative option.

United scouts have reportedly been monitoring Saul since his loan spell with Rayo Vallecano in the 2013/14 season.

And they will need to bolster their midfield this summer with Ander Herrera set to join Paris Saint-Germain .

But Solskjaer’s men will be looking to convince Atletico Madrid to lower their valuation of the 24-year-old.
