FORMER “House of Cards” star Kevin Spacey has appeared in court in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

It is the first criminal case brought against the 59-year-old double Oscar-winner since a string of other allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced in 2017.

What are the charges against Kevin Spacey?

The allegation arose in November that year when former Boston TV anchor Heather Unruh accused Spacey of sexually assaulting her son the crowded bar at the Club Car on the island.

The 18-year-old worked clearing tables and she alleged that Spacey got her son drunk and then grabbed his genitals.

Unruh said her son fled the restaurant when Spacey went to the bathroom and another customer went to check if he was OK.

Court documents claim Spacey unzipped the alleged victim’s trousers and groped him.

The teenager told police he sent his girlfriend a video of the incident.

What happened in court?

Spacey pleaded not guilty when he answered a charge of felony indecent assault and battery at Nantucket District Court.

He stood silently in the courtroom wearing a paisley shirt, spotted blue tie and grey suit as the clerk read out the charges, and left without comment after the brief hearing.

Spacey was ordered to stay away from the alleged victim and his family pending another hearing at the same court in March.

His defence lawyer Alan Jackson persuaded Judge Thomas Barrett to order Spacey’s alleged victim to preserve all data from his mobile phone for six months following the incident.

He faces up to five years in prison if convicted

In court documents, Spacey’s legal team called the accusations “patently false” and noted that prosecutors have no witnesses to the alleged groping.

They wrote that the teen lied about his age, “welcomed” drinks bought by Spacey, left the bar with him to smoke a cigarette and gave Spacey his phone number.

What were the other allegations?

Spacey was ousted from “House of Cards” and other productions after he was accused of sexual assault and inappropriate behaviour by numerous people amid the #MeToo movement.

His first accuser, actor Anthony Rapp, said Spacey climbed on top of him on a bed when Rapp was 14 and Spacey 26.

Spacey said he did not remember such an encounter but apologized if the allegations were true.

He remains under investigation on suspicion of sexual assault in Los Angeles for an incident that allegedly occurred in 2016.

The actor has also faced other complaints including by around 20 people he worked with while artistic director at London’s Old Vic theatre from 2004 to 2015.

He is currently the subject of six Scotland Yard sexual assault investigations into alleged attacks in London and Gloucester.
