THE Voice’s Sir Tom Jones sang with a contestant who turned out to be the son of his late friend on Saturday night – and fans called it a fix.
Viewers were left unhappy, and believed the tearjerker duet with Peter, 35, during the blind auditions was a complete set-up.
The ‘fix’ hashtag began trending soon after Sir Tom, 78, was reunited with the late Lonnie Donegan’s grown up son, and one harsh viewer put it: “What a fix. What a load of pre-arranged rubbish.”
Another sceptical fan said: “I think Tom and the son of Lonnie Donnegan thing was a fix.”
Others were furious that another guitar act was snubbed in favour of Tom’s old friend, and one viewer raged: “What an absolute fix!!! The tree surgeon from Chesterfield smashed it and was far better than Lonnie’s lad”
After realising the connection, Tom and Peter sang an impromptu duet of his 1967 hit Never Gonna Fall In Love Again, which was written by Scotsman Lonnie.
Peter’s father Lonnie, who died in 2002, was deemed the King Of Skiffle – the 1950s’ folk music genre influenced by blues and jazz.
Speaking to his fellow coaches after the encounter, Tom said: “I couldn’t believe it. Never Gonna Fall In Love Again is a song that I still do in my act.
“It was quite emotional singing it. A couple of the notes I couldn’t get out. It just stuck in my throat.”

The Welsh powerhouse, who has Peter on his team, added: “I didn’t know Lonnie had a son that young.”
Olly Murs, 34, also said the performance left him emotional, as the 60s hit reminded him of ex girlfriend Francesca Thomas, who he split from in 2015.
He confessed: “When I broke up with my ex, that was one of the songs I listened to. When Tom sang it next to me I was like, don’t cry. It was emotional.”
