A$AP Bari has admitted sexual assault over an attack on a woman in east London in 2017. He wore a white balaclava when he arrived at London's Old Bailey courtroom today

American rapper A$AP Bari today admitted sexual assault after he slapped a naked woman's bottom in a hotel room.

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Jabari Shelton, was arrested at Heathrow Airport after footage emerged of the assault at The Curtain hotel in Shoreditch, east London.

The clip, filmed on a mobile phone, shows Shelton flinging back a duvet cover to reveal the woman, who had her breasts exposed, slapping her bottom as she walked to the bathroom.

He tells her: 'B****, you f*** my assistant now suck my d***''.

She can be heard pleading with him: 'No no stop, stop it, get off. Can you stop, Bari, honestly.'

Bari's friend Kanye West has supported him since the allegations emerged, insisting: 'There's no way I would have the number 1 record in the world without this man here.'

Shelton admitted sexual assault at the Old Bailey this morning and was finded £4,000, ordered to pay £2,500 in compensation and £2,000 in costs.

Prosecutor James Lofthouse said Shelton met the woman at the Wireless Festival at Finsbury Park.

'He walked up to her and propositioned her and she refused, and that was that,' said Mr Lofthouse.

The following day she met a mutual friend at the east London hotel and they went to bed together.

The woman said she was woken at around 4.30am and Shelton then came into the bedroom, the court heard

'He seemed to react to her being in bed with their mutual friend and lifted the duvet up,' said Mr Lofthouse.

'She moved towards the bathroom and he slapped her as she did.'

Police attended and the woman denied she had been sexually assaulted but was concerned the incident had been filmed and may end up being circulated in the internet.

She did not press charges at the time but made a formal complaint when the footage emerged online three or four days later.

Speaking at an earlier hearing Shelton's defence lawyer, Gideon Cammerman, QC, said the rapper was 'extremely keen' to contest the charge.

He told the court: 'This is made up for the purpose of improving the chance of success in a civil action in the United States for $1million.

'The complainant filed it two days before she made her witness statement to the Metropolitan police in the UK.

'What was on the video was an alleged slap to the bottom.'

Shelton, of Los Angeles, USA, admitted one count of sexual assault.

The fashion designer, who co-founded New York hip hop group ASAP Mob and street clothing label VLONE, will be sentenced later today.
