New photo Scots tourist chiefs forced to apologise after using pic of Jimmy Savile’s Highlands home to promote tourism

BLUNDERING tourism chiefs used a photograph of Jimmy Savile’s holiday cottage in a bid to tempt people to visit Scotland.

The Instagram snap featured the paedophile’s Highland hideaway where it is feared he abused more than 20 victims.

Savile used the property as a holiday home until his death in 2011

VisitScotland shared a snap of the cottage with the caption: “Snow-capped mountain in Glencoe, fantastic shot”.

First followers praised the “amazing” view before others pointed out the home once belonged to foul pervert Savile.

Staff removed the picture from their Instagram page and admitted it had been posted in error.

In a statement, a VisitScotland spokesperson said: “Our social media channels are used to inspire people to visit Scotland, because of this we often share stunning images taking by visitors to our country.

Savile bought the white-washed cottage in 1998 and used it as a holiday home until his death in 2011 aged 84.

It was later reportedly sold at auction to an elderly couple for £212,000 – more than double the £100,000 asking price.
