A MUM is accused of leaving her baby in a soaking nappy in a freezing car for TWO HOURS while she went to a bar.
Tiffany Helbing, 29, faces child neglect charges after police said she left the 15-month-old girl outside the bar in Knox, Indiana, in sub-freezing temperatures.
According to a police report seen by local radio station WKVI, “the baby’s diaper was apparently soaked and no baby food, bottle or diapers were found in the diaper bag or vehicle.”
Police were called to the unattended infant at around 2am on Sunday morning, when they found her abandoned in a car and phoned the child’s father.
He told officers he’d been trying to contact her but she was not answering his calls. The baby was put in his possession and Helbing was taken to jail.
She had been seen drinking with a friend but told authorities the two had taken turns running out to the car to check on the toddler.
Despite the cold, the car engine was left running and Smith noted that the temperature was below freezing, around -3C, at the time.

The baby was found sleeping and was unharmed by the alleged neglect.
Helbing, who faces charges of neglect of a dependent and criminal recklessness, says she was in the bar just 20 minutes – but patrons at O’s Tap bar say she was there for up to two hours.
Smith said police will now examine CCTV footage from the bar to determine how long she had spent in the bar.
