2018 was a big year for movies. Super hero flicks reached new highs and lows and the snap heard round the world shocked audiences. Reboots and sequels (Halloween) continued to dominate the landscape, but original newcomers (A Quiet Place) and amazing biopics (Bohemian Rhapsody) proved fans have diverse tastes. All-in-all, it was a great year for film junkies. All this amazing cinema led to some truly incredible scenes that had viewers hitting the pause button and saying, “did that really just happen?” It did. Here are the most paused scenes of 2018 (that weren’t in adult films).

Apparently, erasing half the population in the universe with a snap, caused people to take a pause.
Jurassic World Mighty Death
One Brachiosaurus we’ve followed throughout the first half of the film doesn’t make it off the island and this pissed me off. I was in the theater, so I couldn’t pause, but you’re excused if you paused and broke something.
Solo: A Star Wars Story – Darth Maul Reveal
Throughout the movie we’ve heard references to a greater criminal organization called “Crimson Dawn.” After Qi’ra make several fateful decisions, she pledges her allegiance to Crimson Dawn via a hologram revealed to be Darth Maul.
Bohemian Rhapsody Live Aid
In its climactic closing sequence, Queen takes the stage at 1985’s Live Aid concert—perfectly recreated for the film–and share the triumph over all their trials and tribulations. It was worth a pause to look at how gorgeously recreated the entire scene was.
Mission Impossible: Fallout Halo Jump
When Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) jumps from a plane performing an intense HALO (high altitude low open) jump, people paused to verify it was truly the actor. It was.
Black Panther mannequin kick
T’Challa’s new armor packs quite a punch. When instructed to kick this new suit, he gets put on his ass. It’s not often we see a hero put down by an inanimate object. It was a hilarious moment that caught many off guard.
Deadpool 2 and the X-MEN
It became a running joke in the first Deadpool movie how empty Xavier’s school was, so for the second film, the school was fully populated. People paused to take roll of who actually showed up this time.
A Quiet Place goes out with a bang
Throughout the movie, the lack of sound is almost suffocating. Then, in the decisive final fight, things amp up considerably with one of the most climactic and heart wrenching confrontations all year. You’re excused if you needed a moment to wipe away a tear.
Venom-ous Kiss
Most paused and oft talked about, in this scene Eddie Brock and Venom share a strangely passionate kiss and fear boners arose everywhere. I’ll let your mind wander as to why this was paused so often…
Halloween – Karen has a blast
In one of the film’s most bad ass scenes, Laurie’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) daughter Karen (Judy Greer), who’s remained a pacifist if not a non-believer for most of the film, blasts Michael into next week. Consider the torch passed.
The Meg gets… Mega-er?
They’ve spent half the movie hunting this monstrous shark and string it up in celebration. Only, this is a baby Meg and the true Meg swoops up from the deep and swallows the mini-Meg in one gulp.
