Speakers blasting Toto's Africa have been set up in the Namib Desert to play the soft rock classic on an infinite loop.

Namibian artist Max Siedentopf has set up a solar-powered sound installation in a hidden location to 'keep Toto going for all eternity'. 

The six speakers are attached to an mp3 player with the single 1982  track on it.

'[I] wanted to pay the song the ultimate homage and physically exhibit "Africa" in Africa,' the 27-year-old artist told the BBC.

'Some [Namibians] love it and some say it's probably the worst sound installation ever. I think that's a great compliment.'

Mr Siedentopf said he hopes the song - which is quadruple platinum - will play in the 55million-year-old desert for another 55 million years.

'Most parts of the installation were chosen to be as durable as possible, but I'm sure the harsh environment of the desert will devour the installation eventually,' he added.

Africa has more than 440million views on YouTube and was the most streamed tune in 2017.

It was recently covered by Pitbull for the new superhero film Aquaman, with the rapper adding lyrics about Banksy.
