New photo Gemma Collins will surprise everyone on Dancing on Ice, say judges Torvill & Dean — and her body could be her secret weapon

CYNICS expecting curvy Gemma Collins to be a disaster who quits Dancing On Ice will be proved wrong, say judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

They reckon her size 20 body could be her secret weapon, with the extra weight giving her an advantage over other contestants.

The legendary Olympic ice dance gold medallists were speaking during their Bizarre TV takeover to launch the new series of Dancing On Ice this Sunday at 6pm on ITV.

Jayne said: “You might say Gemma is a bit big, and she’s a tall lady too, which means you have further to fall.

“But if you’re skinny it hurts more because there’s not much natural padding. A lot of the skaters have to wear padded things to protect their hips.

“And Gemma must have done ballet as a child, because she’s actually very dainty and graceful.”

Chris added: “She’s larger than life but she can drop into a splits. You just say, ‘Gemma, split!’ and down she goes.

“We saw her right at the very beginning when she first took to the ice and she wasn’t afraid of it. I’m as excited as everyone else to see what she has done.

“But we aren’t wanting to see what’s happened until that first show.

“She’s going to show all the naysayers that she is going to be there, and I think she’ll be there with bells on.”

Jayne and Chris are very excited by The GC’s declaration that she would like to lift her dance partner Matt Evers in one routine.

Chris said: “Girls have done it in skating before, but not on Dancing On Ice. We always love a first on the show.”

Jayne added: “Gemma is someone who would say, ‘I can do this!’ but I don’t know if her partner would be happy with it.”

I think we ought to check with Matt first.

Richard Blackwood: Could be a pin-up this year’s, with muscles to do the lifts[/caption]

AS a Strictly pro he got a reputation for being a motormouth, but Jayne and Chris reckon James Jordan has been humbled by Dancing On Ice.

Like other contestants who’ve come from a dance background, they say he has had a rude awakening since he put on the skates.

Jayne said: “He had pressure from a lot of his friends saying, ‘You’ll be good at that’. But then he realised, ‘I really have to learn to skate!’ ”

Chris added: “The minute he hit the ice, it was like, ‘What have I signed up for?’ It’s a leveller for everyone.”

Hopefully the ice will cool the hothead down a little bit too.

It’s skate acres: the musical

CHRISTMAS Day ITV drama Torvill & Dean brought the skaters’ life story to the screen – and now Jayne and Chris want it to become a musical.

The duo were thrilled that younger Dancing On Ice viewers got to know more about their rise to fame through the TV biography, which starred Poppy Lee Friar and Will Tudor as the pair.

Now Christoper and Jayne would like their rags-to-riches tale to inspire more people, this time through a stage show.

Christoper said: “It would make an interesting musical. I could see it on stage.

“I’ve had a think about this – it could all be set in the locker room or the cafeteria and then the ice scenes are on an LED wall where you see the skating.

“But the dialogue and singing would all be off the ice.

“We haven’t made any moves to do this yet. But we could have a cameo – so long as Jayne doesn’t have to sing!”

Bit harsh, Chris.

We want same-sex pairs

THEY’RE famous for their Winter Olympics gold medal-winning Bolero – a routine telling the story of a doomed romance between a man and a woman.

And Jayne and Chris say they would be just as happy if Dancing On Ice had similar weekly performances from same-sex couples.

Particularly as it would see them get one up on their rival, Strictly Come Dancing, who have yet to take the progressive step.

Chris said: “I don’t think it’s a problem at all. I’ve partnered with boys before. I think two male partners can look very strong.

“Skating is much more contemporary, but with Strictly they’ve got their traditional dances.

“When you’re doing a waltz, for example, there’s always the lady’s hold or the man’s hold.”

Jayne added: “It’s something we’ve never seen before but it depends on the routine. And if it works musically, why not?”

To achieve her kick-ass figure, Hayden – who plays cheerleader Claire Bennet in Heroes – follows the ‘quartering’ rule. She eats only a quarter of the food on her plate, then waits 20 minutes before deciding whether she needs to eat again.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
