EVER since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their baby news, royal fans have been wondering whether the couple will welcome a boy or girl.
And now, one midwife has weighed in, revealing an old wives tale can sometimes indicate the gender of the baby.
Amanda Bude, a midwife from Groovy Babies, told Body & Soul that it’s all to do with the way the mother “carries” the child.
Apparently, if the bump is “wide and low” and the mother has a “tree trunk waist” it’s believed to be a girl, while if the mother is carrying “high and pointy”, she’s likely to be welcoming a baby boy.
Given that this is an old wives tale, Amanda noted: “But, I don’t think there is any research that has ever been done to credit this.”
Since Meghan first appeared with her growing bump last year, fans have been quick to comment on whether she’ll be having a boy or a girl.
Shortly after the couple announced their pregnancy, the couple were inundated with well wishes from fans in Australia.
And when they first arrived in Sydney, one fan shouted: “Congratulations, I hope it’s a girl!” to which Harry is believed to have replied: “So do I!”
Days later, speculation was fuelled even further after reports revealed the couple could be more likely to have a baby boy, based on research from Newcastle University.
Scientists found that those with more male siblings, like Prince Harry, were more likely to father boys.
More recently, royal fans were convinced 37-year-old Meghan is pregnant with twins as bookies suspended bets on a double arrival.
Many fans have commented on the size of Meghan’s bump, despite the fact she isn’t due to give birth until March or April next year.
One tweeted: “That Meghan Markle is having twins I swear #giantbump,” while another wrote: “I’m just gonna say it right now: Meghan Markle is going to have twins, one boy and one girl.”
So, could Meghan be having both a boy and a girl?
A baby’s gender can be determined around 18 to 21 weeks into the pregnancy and while it is not known whether the Duke and Duchess have chosen to know the gender, they could certainly find out if they wanted to.
With Meghan due to give birth in a matter of weeks, it shouldn’t be too long before we find out.
