New photo BBC’s Dan Walker wants RAF flypast for hero, 82, who has tended crash memorial for 75 years

BBC star Dan Walker has called for an RAF flypast for a man who’s tended a war crash memorial for nearly 75 years.

Tony Foulds, now 82, witnessed the horror in February 1944 when ten airmen in a US bomber died.

Dan has praised the 82-year-old for his dedication and believes he should be rewarded with a flypast

The B-17 was returning from a raid in Denmark when it flew hundreds of miles off course.

The pilot went to land in a park in Sheffield, but pulled up when he saw Tony, then eight, and pals playing football. The bomber then crashed into a hill.

Tony said: “If it hadn’t been for them I’d be dead. They’re like family to me.”

BBC Breakfast’s Dan hailed his dedication, saying: “He’s diligently maintained the memorial since. Almost 75 years of service. What a man. I’m in bits. He’s had Parkinson’s for 21 years.

“He couldn’t get his phone out of his pocket this morning because of the shakes but still tends the memorial. Let’s mark his 75 years of service with something special.”

The star revealed selfless Tony rejected his suggestion of a medal — and instead urged the flypast for the crash’s 75th anniversary on February 22.

Dan asked his Twitter followers for help and later added: “Wheels are in motion.”
