New photo Tyson Fury gives tickets to LA firefighters as he vows to help drug addicts and homeless with £8m Deontay Wilder purse

TYSON FURY handed Los Angeles firefighters free tickets for his Deontay Wilder fight before vowing to save drink and drug addicts in the UK.

The Gypsy King and Wilder were showing their appreciation to the men and women who have bravely battled forest fires across the state that have claimed the lives of 88 with 203 people still missing.

Fury, 30, dressed in a firefighter outfit as he handed out 75 tickets for Saturday nights heavyweight title clash at the Staples Center.

He said: “These firefighters are heroes who have been out there every day saving lives,

“Since I’ve been here I’ve been following the situation and the fantastic job these men and women have been doing.

“I’m glad to be here to tell them how thankful I am for what they do and help give them a break Saturday night.”

Fury’s nine week stint among the desperate on California’s streets has convinced him to save those in need back home.

At the Wild Card gym last week, Fury said he would give his estimated £8million purse to the poor after being hit hard by the Los Angeles poverty.

He has now got a new plan to help people struggling with the same vices that haunted him during his 924-day break from boxing as he battled depression.

He added: “I am very happy I chose California for my training camp, it has really opened my eyes to a lot of things.

“It has opened my eyes to so many different cultures and things happening.

“There are a lot of people on the streets here, more than I have ever seen in my life. I stayed in Down Town L.A but if you go just five minutes away there are thousands of people homeless.

“You could think you were in a third-world country, it’s a crisis situation and something needs to be done about it.

“I know I am just an outsider with an opinion on it and it is a situation happening all over the, especially in the UK and here in the US.

“When I get home I am going to build some homes for the homeless and set up some funds for drug addicts and alcoholics. I was always going to do it and being here has just given me that extra push to do it.”

Fury ballooned up to 28 stone during his darkest days away from the sport two years ago but has shed 10 of those – the equivalent of a prime Ricky Hatton, who will be a member of his corner.

Trainer Ben Davison has revealed that even at 26 stone the 6ft 9in switch-hitter was running up Marbella mountains and pumping iron and Fury accepts that the early training with all that extra baggage could have boosted his cardio power.

He said: “I know I am as fit and strong as I have ever been.

“I stand here an honest person and if I was shot to pieces and only here for the money, I would tell you.

“I am not here for money, I am not here for a payday, I am here to win.

“I don’t know what I will do, I have been accused many times of not knowing what I am doing until I am in there and I agree.

“I do not know what I am going to do. You plan one thing and you get in there and it all changes.

“I might have to fight, box, move or go in the trenches. But I am capable of having a fight with anyone in the world and I am capable of out-boxing anyone in the world.”

BT Sport Box Office will exclusively show Wilder v Fury on December 1st, available to buy for just £19.95, find out more at www.bt.com/sportboxoffice.
