New photo Black Friday looms...but some say they're over it already

Breathe in, the biggest shopping day of the year is almost upon us.

With just hours to go until high streets across the globe serve up huge discounts, shoppers are readying themselves for the retail frenzy that will burn a hole in their wallets.

While some are using the hashtag #blackfridayready, others are tweeting their antipathy for the commercial bun-fight.

The one-day event, which has its origins in the US, has spawned an entire weekend of potential spending opportunities, with everything from holidays to kitchen equipment - and everything inbetween - on offer at a discounted rate.

For some though, the prospect of the world and its mother grappling to buy the same thing is too much.

As momentum has built, for every commercial ad on Twitter there's a tweet from a desperate soul wishing it would be next week already.

@pip_says wrote: 'The states have #BlackFriday obviously here in Britain we have 'Orange Thursday' where actual, grown adults get into fist fights over a carrot soft toy from an advert. Humanity is doomed. ;) #KevinTheCarrot'

@KatieHallers moaned: 'I'm so poor I can't handle all these sale emails #blackfriday'

Many were anticipating the now annual scrum. @Abstertravels wrote: 'Can't wait for the fight club to start. Sorry, Black friday'.

@robv73 snipped: 'Can someone maybe mention the word #blackfriday? I have not yet heard it enough.'

For some the temptation was just too much, with early sales proving temptation enough.

@rhaegx wrote: 'All I wanted was a jacket for Iceland and here I am with enough makeup & skincare to last a lifetime. and 71p in the bank.'

However, those walking away with what they think is a good deal might actually not be snapping up such a bargain.

Nine out of ten Black Friday deals do not offer the savings claimed, it is revealed.

Research by consumer experts at Which? found many of the products sold with apparently huge discounts could have been bought more cheaply at other times.

Which? monitored the prices of 94 popular products, including TVs, cameras and fitness trackers, that were on offer over Black Friday 2017, from six months before until six months afterwards.

It found the overwhelming majority – 87 per cent – were cheaper at other times of the year. It brings into question the true value of Black Friday, which falls this week.

Hayden says: “I don’t have a model’s body, but I’m not one of those crazy girls who thinks that they’re fat. I’m OK with what I have.”

Nicollette says: “I don’t like diets – I see it, I eat it! I believe in eating healthily with lots of protein, vegetables and carbs to give you energy.”
